As per latest announcement made on April 6, 2017, Reliance Jio would soon be withdrawing the Summer Surprise Offer. This move has been taken by Jio due to advisory issued by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). It is expected that the Jio Summer Surprise offer will be withdrawn within the next 48 hours or so.
Summer Surprise Offer is a special offer announced by Mukesh Ambani on 31st March 2017. As you may be aware, customers who wish to opt for Jio Prime were to complete the process by March 31, 2017. This was however extended further till April 15, 2017 due to large influx of interested customers. Along with the extension of deadline, customers who opted for Jio Prime Plans of Rs 303 and higher were provided with the added benefit of a complimentary offer called the Summer Surprise. Under Jio Summer Surprise, all customers would reap the following benefits for free till the end of June 2017:-
Customers who have already made the Rs. 303 recharge would still be eligible for the complimentary plan even though it is being withdrawn.
As stated earlier, Jio Summer Surprise is being withdrawn due to advisory from TRAI. TRAI has identified some regulatory issues with the Summer Surprise offer and has asked Reliance Jio to withdraw the same. Jio, understanding the grievance this will cause to the customers will still honour the offer for those customers who have recharged with Rs. 303 before the withdrawal. TRAI, on its part, will soon release a revised order on the quality of norms to be followed for mobile services. This revised order would also contain some guidelines for upcoming technologies like VoLTE.
More than 72 million customers have already signed up for Jio Prime plans. Jio Prime plans have a huge range of denominations from Rs. 19 to Rs. 9999. As per the Summer Surprise offer, customers, who recharge with Jio Prime plans of Rs 303 and upwards are eligible for free benefits. Customers will still be able to opt for Jio Prime till April 15 but Summer Surprise will be withdrawn. All customers who have opted for Jio Prime plans of Rs. 303 and above before the withdrawal takes effect, will still be provided access to features of the Summer Surprise complimentary offer. However, those customers who opt for Jio Prime after Summer Surprise is withdrawn will not receive any complimentary services for 3 months. They would instead have to do a recharge every month as per their requirement. Customers with Summer Surprise will do their next recharge only in July 2017. Clearly, the TRAI regulation has led to some losses for customers who are still thinking about signing up for Jio Prime. Early bird wins the worm and those customers who have already signed up for Jio Prime, will still reap the benefits of Jio Summer Surprise inspite of the TRAI advisory.
